Good News in South Cobb Schools

Every week, we feature a Whiz Kid, but this week, we're featuring two South Cobb schools for their accomplishments.

recently won the 2011 Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award for region 4-AAAAA from the Georgia High School Association and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation.

Schools that exhibit exemplary sportsmanship during competitive events receive the award.

Dr. Ralph Swearngin, GHSA executive director, said the GHSA hopes that by emphasizing good sportsmanship at its athletic events, progress can be made in reversing the trend of uncivilized behavior.

The Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship award was introduced in 2006, and it reinforces the GHSA philosophy, β€œStudents, athletes, coaches, spectators and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility.” Β 

Winners are selected by the GHSA region secretaries based upon sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the school year.

Also, was identified by the Georgia Partnership of Excellence in Education. The school which has made Adequate Yearly Progress for the last three years after failing to make AYP for six years straight is now labeled "rapidly improving," based on a 2011 research project.
