Whitefield Makes Good Showing at 2011 GHSA Wrestling State Championship

Gwinnett Arena host site for mega wrestling meet, local athletes in attendance

This  photo gallery shows highlights from Mableton's Whitefield Academy at the 2011 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Wrestling State Championship, which took place Friday at the Gwinnett Arena. Whitefield Academy tied for 17th place with Washington-Wilkes scoring 20 points in the championship, and also had two place winners at the State Tournament. Matt Owens placed fourth at 125 pounds, and Taylor Tutt placed fifth at 189 pounds.  Luke Putney, 145-pound sophomore wrestler, qualified for the state tournament as a fourth seed but he did not advance in the championship.  

This mega event is one of the biggest tournaments in the country with over 1,000 wrestlers and 1,800 individual matches.
