Statesboro police have 1 in custody following Sunday evening shooting (wsav.com) — Statesboro police have arrested an 18-year-old resident after a Sunday evening shooting at Cone Homes on Northside Drive East that left another 18-year-old with a non-fatal abdominal wound. Investigators say the incident grew from an ongoing dispute between two apartments, and they're still seeking any additional information or video from nearby residents.

Statesboro High teacher to serve as GBEA president (wsav.com) — A longtime Statesboro High School business teacher has been chosen to lead the Georgia Business Education Association for the 2027-2028 term, highlighting local excellence in career education. With more than two decades at Statesboro High, she's helped shape business and finance programs and advises the school's National Technical Honor Society chapter.

3. Expansion coming to Statesboro emergency department (wsav.com) — Statesboro's East Georgia Regional Medical Center is investing $16 million to expand and modernize its emergency department, adding 12 treatment rooms, fast-track bays, and more parking to better serve Bulloch County's growing population. Construction starts this fall with a temporary entrance shift to the outpatient area, but the ER will stay open throughout, and the hospital is hiring additional staff.

Mountaineers soccer faced first defeat in seven weeks against James Madison (theappalachianonline.com) — App State women's soccer saw its first loss of the season at James Madison, ending a 10-game unbeaten streak. Next up, the Mountaineers head to Statesboro on Oct. 8 to face Georgia Southern, bringing a strong opponent to town for local fans to watch in person or on ESPN+.
