Low-Income Seniors Left Stranded After Lala Floods Building Elevator (civilbeat.org) — Low-income seniors at Honolulu's Kalākaua Vista have been without their only elevator since mid-August flooding from Hurricane Lala, leaving many residents effectively trapped on upper floors. Another senior building, Wisteria Vista, also has storm-damaged elevator service, while city and state agencies are now checking on conditions and urging residents to report concerns about vulnerable adults. 
2. Hawaii Vital Records Office moving to downtown Honolulu (staradvertiser.com) — If you need birth, death, or marriage certificates in Honolulu, the state's Vital Records Office is shifting in-person services to City Financial Tower downtown by Oct. 1. Both the current Punchbowl Street and new Merchant Street offices will operate during the move, but residents should expect possible delays as 175 years of records are transferred and systems modernized.
3. Honolulu police warn of fake ankle monitor scam (khon2.com) — Honolulu residents are being warned about scam callers posing as police and demanding ankle-monitor payments through apps like Venmo or Zelle. HPD stresses it never takes payments by third-party apps, doesn't run such a paid ankle-monitor program, and urges you to hang up, delete suspicious messages, and ignore caller ID spoofing.
4. Air 1 assists in rescue of lost hikers at Ehukai Pillbox Trail (staradvertiser.com) — Honolulu Fire Department crews used their Air 1 helicopter and ground teams to safely locate and escort two lost hikers off the Ehukai Pillbox Trail in Sunset Beach on Wednesday afternoon. Sixteen firefighters responded within minutes, confirmed the women were uninjured, and are reminding Honolulu residents to research routes, heed trail signs, and follow closures before heading out.
5. Waialua residents sue over Kona Low storm damage (khon2.com) — Residents of Waialua's Haona Street are suing Dole Plantation and the City and County of Honolulu, arguing poor maintenance of Kaukonahua Stream and Wahiawa Dam worsened March's Kona low flooding. They're seeking damages and a long-term county plan to keep the stream clear, saying decades of neglect left their neighborhood vulnerable to severe flood impacts.
