Man Charged With Murdering Pregnant Downers Grove Woman Released From Hospital

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Nedas Revuckas, who is accused of killing Eliza Morales, 30, while she was five months pregnant, is back in custody at DuPage County Jail after a brief hospitalization for wounds that were believed to be self-inflicted.

Revuckas had been admitted to a hospital in critical conditon after an "incident" Thursday afternoon in his jail housing unit. According to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, it did not appear any other people were involved.

The incident came hours after Revuckas's first court appearance, in which Judge Joshua Dieden denied pre-trial release. In a press conference Thursday morning, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin called the murder a "horrific act of violence" and said his office would pursue an enhanced "brutal and heinous" sentence for Revuckas.

Revuckas is accused of stabbing Morales 70 times and setting her family's house on fire. According to a petition to deny pretrial release, Revuckas atttacked Morales because he was displeased with the truck he bought from her and her husband on Facebook Marketplace.

He is also accused of stabbing the family's dog, Zula, between the eyes. Zula was being treated at VCA Animal Hospital.

Revuckas was charged with six counts of first-degree murder with intent to cause death or great bodily harm, as well as armed robbery, aggravated arson, intentional homicide of an unborn child, and aggravated cruelty to animals.

A GoFundMe has been started by the Morales family to raise money to help support her husband and a two-year-old daughter.
