GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
An Elizabeth Lane resident reported on Jan. 7 that someone had photographed the exterior of their house. Police contacted the person, who explained he worked for Amazon and said the company is collecting photography to aid its deliveries.

ANIMAL ABUSE?
A person at Flick Park, 3600 Glenview Road, reported discovering a duck that had two small, orange darts stuck in it around 3 p.m. on Jan. 7. Police said the duck could not be captured and its current whereabouts were unknown.

BATTERY
A resident in the 200 block of Montgomery Lane reported around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 that they had been punched in the face by an acquaintance during an argument.

TICKET SCAM
A Robincrest Lane resident reported on the morning of Jan. 9 that they had lost $450 in an attempt to buy four basketball tickets from someone on the online marketplace Craigslist.

HOME BURGLARY
A neighbor in the 3000 block of Lexington Lane reported discovering a break-in had occurred at a vacant home on their block. Someone had forced open the front door, causing about $500 in damage, police reported.

FOOD THEFT
An employee at Hackney's On Lake, 1514 E. Lake Ave., reported around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 that someone who had eaten $20 worth of food at the establishment left without paying after claiming he was going out to his car to charge his laptop.

FORGERY
Someone made $20,000 in unauthorized withdrawals from a business account belonging to a Briarhill Lane resident at some point prior to 3 p.m. on Jan. 10, police were told.

DISTURBANCE
A manager at Ju Rang, 611 Milwaukee Ave., reported around 11 p.m. on Jan. 11 that an intoxicated customer was disturbing other patrons.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Concord Lane resident reported on the morning of Jan. 7 that someone had used their debit card to make a purchase at a store in Chicago for a loss of $94.
  • A Larkdale Drive resident reported on the afternoon of Jan. 11 that someone had made changes to their phone and cable accounts and tried to access their bank accounts for a reported loss of $300.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Someone grabbed a package of cigars worth less than $2 from Glenbrook Liquors, 2554 Milwaukee Ave., prior to 5 p.m. on Jan. 7, police were told.
  • An employee of the Target at 2241 Willow Road reported around 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 11 that someone had stolen two vacuum cleaners, worth a combined $1,000, after putting them in a shopping cart and leaving without paying.
  • Another Target employee reported around 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 13 that someone had stolen about $90 worth of merchandise after walking around the store and putting things into a shopping bag.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 200 block of Montgomery Lane reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 they heard a loud noise outside their home before going outside to discover a fresh dent on the passenger side door that would cost an estimated $500 to repair.
  • Someone shattered a window on the door to the second-floor of a home in the 1900 block of Monroe Avenue shortly before midnight on Jan. 10, causing $600 in damage.

CAR BURGLARY

  • A resident in the 700 block of Echo Lane reported around 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 8 that someone burglarized their unlocked car, stealing cash, ownership records and a case of poker chips for a loss of more than $100.
  • Someone stole two checkbooks worth $10 from an unlocked car parked in a driveway of the 700 block of Windsor Road prior to 9:15 a.m on Jan. 8, police were told.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Avshalom Chayim, 45, of the 5600 block of Court Leona, Hanover Park, was charged on Jan. 6 with aggravated identity theft at the Skokie Courthouse in connection with a car burglary reported Aug. 13, 2019, at the North Shore County Club, 1340 Glenview Road. Chayim was detained pending a bond hearing that same day. Glenview police said they worked with other agencies to identify Chayim. Prosecutors previously charged Chayim with felony possession of a stolen credit card and misdemeanor theft of a social security card following his November 2019 arrest in the parking lot of the Grand Foods at 341 Hazel Ave., according to Glencoe police reports. Glenview police reported in March 2019 that Chayim was charged with residential burglary after detectives witnessed two people enter an unlocked home on Aspen Court.

A 25-year-old Cicero man was arrested around 11 p.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license following a traffic stop in the 1500 block of East Lake Avenue.

A 31-year-old Glenview man was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 7 in the 9200 block of Greenwood Road following a traffic stop and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. Police also issued him citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving without a license.

A 38-year-old Chicago man was arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license after he was involved in a traffic crash at West Lake and Milwaukee avenues. Police also issued him citations for operating an uninsured vehicle and improper backing.

A 70-year-old Glenview man was issued a disorderly conduct citation around 6 p.m. on Jan. 8 after police were told he threw food on a car after arguing with its driver in the 3300 block of Springdale Avenue.

Jacal Caldwell, 29, of the 1800 block of South Avers Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 10 at the Citadel of Northbrook nursing home at 3300 Milwaukee Ave. and charged with theft and attempted aggravated identity theft following an investigation into a Dec. 17 incident at the facility. Police reported she stole a debit card for a $900 loss.
