"If you have already donated money to a GoFundMe page, you should immediately request a refund through the website and report the page as a scam," police said Tuesday.

Patch found one of these pages, currently up on GoFundMe, that has already raised $1,200 of a $7,000 goal.

A representative from GoFundMe reached out to Patch and said that the company's Trust & Safety team "is investigating and has reached out to the organizer for more information. If any donor would like to request a refund in the meantime, we will process it for them."

GoFundMe is backed by a "Giving Guarantee" which the representative said "protects donors and their generosity." GoFundMe guarantees a full donation refund "in the rare case something isn’t right." Learn more here: gofundme.com/c/safety/gofundme-guarantee
