This Time, David Towner Might Be In Jail A While
After his fourth arrest by Joliet police in two weeks, the homeless man's bond was set at $30,000.

JOLIET, IL - No Joliet resident has been in the police blotter more than 62-year-old David Towner since Aug. 30. On that Wednesday afternoon courthouse security officers and others saw him destroying flowers and flower pots outside the Will County Courthouse. Towner was given a misdemeanor citation on the charge of criminal property damage and sent on his way. On Thursday, Sept. 7, according to Joliet police, Towner was trespassing after hours inside a vehicle at one of the Hawk auto dealerships on Jefferson Street. Last Saturday, Sept. 9, Towner took off his shoes and was found stretched out across the backseat of a vehicle at a D'Arcy auto dealership on Essington Road, according to police. That time, Towner was taken to jail, booked and released on his own recognizance.

This week, Towner is back in the Will County Jail, and he may be staying a while. A judge set a $30,000 bond for the homeless man. In effect, Towner needs to come up with $3,000 cash, or 10 percent, to go free while his latest criminal case is pending at the Will County Courthouse, the same place where Towner is accused of destroying their flowers.
On Tuesday night, September 12, Joliet police say Towner approached the front counter at the Circle K gas station near Larkin Avenue and Jefferson Street. He had food and drinks in his hands. Then, he bolted out the door, according to police. The store clerk tried to give chase, but Towney was already gone. Several minutes later, Joliet police officers spotted Towner over near the Joliet West High School campus. This time, Towner was charged with felony retail theft, and he ended up with a high bond.
