58 Positive Cases Of Coronavirus In Lemont Area
Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Lemont.
LEMONT, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in Lemont, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.
As of Friday, the number of cases in Illinois is 73,760 and 3,241 people have died from the coronavirus. A total of 399,714 tests have been performed in Illinois. As of May 8, there are 19,175 confirmed cases in suburban Cook County, and 779 deaths.
IDPH is now also sharing the number of tests performed in each ZIP code. For ZIP code 60439, 479 tests have been performed with a total of 58 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, as of May 8.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, there has also been 5 coronavirus related deaths in Lemont since March 16. The deaths included one woman in her 50s, one woman in her 60s, one woman in her 70s, one man in his 60s, and one man in his 70s.

SCHOOLS
Schools across Illinois, and in Lemont, will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. E-learning will still be taking place. MORE.
Lemont Patch wants to provide a way to share the achievements of our high school graduates, even if it's in a small way. We're asking parents and families to fill out a short form for their graduate, and Patch will compile the information and share it on an ongoing basis throughout the month of May. MORE.
SS. Cyril and Methodius School in Lemont recently held a drive-by parade and also delivered graduation signs to celebrate its eighth grade graduates. Staff member Kim Gardner told Patch the drive-by parade was held in response to teachers, staff, students and parents saying how much they missed school and seeing everyone. MORE.
BUSINESSES
Lemont Patch is gathering information from local businesses to create a business directory for residents to access during this time. MORE.
Honey Pedals, a coffee and ice cream shop, will open at 400 E. Illinois St., in the former Muffins location, to offer some sweet treats to customers. MORE.
In Lemont, 35 businesses have teamed up for a raffle to help support the small businesses in town. Each business has contributed $300 for the We Love Lemont raffle, generating three $3,500 grand prizes. The three winners will be drawn May 10, and they will each win $3,500 in gift cards to various Lemont businesses. MORE.
The long-awaited outdoor adventure park The Forge: Lemont Quarries was supposed to open Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, but the stay-at-home order prevents the opening. MORE.
HOSPITALS
Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox has once again seen a decrease in the amount of coronavirus inpatients at the hospital over the past week. As of 7 a.m. Thursday, the hospital told Patch it has 36 inpatients who have tested positive for the coronavirus and 15 persons under investigation. MORE.
A Lemont woman was released from Silver Cross Hospital April 24 after five weeks of battling the coronavirus. Halina Zabinski, 59, was the first coronavirus inpatient at the hospital when she was admitted in mid-March. MORE.
CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES
The Archdiocese of Chicago has suspended all normal religious services until further notice. The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs has also suspended its Friday services. MORE.
The Lemont Public Library will be closed through the month of May due to the stay-at-home order. The library plans to reopen June 1. Checked-out materials will not be due until after the library reopens.
The Lemont Park District remains closed. In addition, playgrounds, play equipment, basketball courts, pickleball courts, tennis courts, the pavilions, and the skate park are also all closed. Open space and trails are open. It has also rescheduled the Quarryman Challenge to November. MORE.
In response to low ridership due to the coronavirus crisis, Metra will temporarily further reduce the schedules on its three least busy lines, the Heritage Corridor, SouthWest Service and North Central Service, starting Monday, May 4. MORE.
