Glencoe Attorney Charged With Neglecting Dogs Was Allowed To Keep 1

Attorney for Jeanne Harper claims the dogs found covered in feces and matted fur weren't hers.

A lawyer for the Glencoe woman charged with neglecting nearly 40 dogs found at her residence in May says the dogs did not belong to her.

Attorney Terrence Jordan, who is representing 66-year-old Jeanne Harper (an attorney herself), said the dogs were “pretty much dropped on her” while she was in the process of moving out of the Greenwood Avenue home, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The dogs were dropped off with Harper because of her “affinity of dogs” according to Jordan and she was attempting to “get them taken care of.” Glencoe police also confirmed Harper was allowed to keep one dog who had been found to be in good condition.

Hazmat crews found the canines, some of which had to be euthanized, covered in feces and matted fur. Some have been taken to local animal shelters and adopted.

Harper’s case involves misdemeanor charges related to the mistreatment of companion animals.
