'He was our big brother': Family seeks answers a month after deadly Greenwell Springs Road hit-and-run (wafb.com) — Baton Rouge police still have no leads nearly a month after a deadly hit-and-run on Greenwell Springs Road that killed pedestrian John Le Nguyen, and they're again asking residents for tips. His family is pressing for answers and better street lighting, while police urge anyone who knows something to call Crimestoppers at 344-STOP to help bring accountability. 
2. Councilman Anthony Kenney leads workshop to tackle Baton Rouge blight (louisianafirstnews.com) — A Baton Rouge councilman just hosted a "Revitalizing the Block" workshop to help residents reclaim and redevelop blighted and adjudicated properties across East Baton Rouge Parish. With more than 5,000 blighted properties estimated parishwide and new federal grant funding on the way, neighbors are being encouraged to get involved, learn the process, and turn vacant lots into productive, pride-building spaces.

After losing her son, Baton Rouge mother creates nonprofit to help grieving families (wafb.com) — A Baton Rouge mother who lost her 14‑month‑old son in 2024 has launched The Orange Glow Project to support families grieving a child's death. The nonprofit offers care packages, mental health resources, and community connections now, with hopes of eventually helping cover burial and therapy costs for families facing unimaginable loss.
4. Tuskegee dress code inspires HBCU board member to push for one (miamiherald.com) — Southern University leaders are weighing whether to pursue a student dress code across their public HBCU system, which includes the main campus in Baton Rouge, after Tuskegee University's new standards sparked national debate. Any policy would face extra scrutiny because Southern is a public institution, raising questions about how far it can go in regulating student appearance.
5. Mother, man indicted in beating death of 7-year-old West Baton Rouge girl (louisianafirstnews.com) — A West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury has indicted a mother and a man on second-degree murder and obstruction charges in the beating death of 7-year-old Paris Williams, in a case prosecuted out of Baton Rouge. Authorities say the child suffered extensive blunt-force injuries at an Addis home, and prosecutors plan to move the case quickly to trial, with motions set for September 2.
