Shaquille O'Neal's Big Chicken restaurant, which opened recently, is the first such standalone restaurant in Maryland. Founded in 2018, Big Chicken features a menu that includes a mix of sandwiches, tenders and sides.
The Thrift Boutique has opened at the Waterview Town Center, 157 Orville Road in Essex. There are $1 racks of clothes and shoes, and a donation drop-off center.
As part of the Sit. Stay. Save. campaign launched at Harford Bank, Miss Maryland 2026 Gianna Romero recently crowned a local dog named Remy as "top dog." The campaign supports the Humane Society of Harford County, and throughout August, Harford Bank will donate $25 to the HSHC for every new deposit account opened and funded with new money.
Giant Food recently celebrated its reopening of the Columbia location, which now offers an expanded seafood department, a broader selection of international foods, a Ledo Pizza Corner Shop, a full-service sushi bar with an in-store chef and a variety of prepared food offerings.
Wonder has officially opened in Bowie, bringing convenient meal options to residents. Wonder offers delivery, pick-up and dine-in from a host of participating restaurants including Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, Hanu Poke, Detroit Brick Pizza Co., Bobby Flay Steak, Room for Dessert and The Mainstay by Marc Murphy.
By the end of the month, the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre will be home to First Watch at 1403 South Main Chapel Way. At the Hopkins Place shopping center at 2299 Johns Hopkins Road, Taco a la Madre will open its first Anne Arundel County location.
The popular Wonder food hall will be opening its newest location in Gaithersburg this month. Like other Wonder food halls in the state, the Gaithersburg location will offer family-friendly meals inspired by chefs Bobby Flay, Marcus Samuelsson and Michael Symon.
The Bengies Drive-In Theatre in Middle River will mark its 70th anniversary this month with a fireworks display. Organizers say the event takes place Saturday, Aug. 15, at 3417 Eastern Blvd. It will be followed by a screening of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."
