School Activities Canceled in Harford This Weekend

Crews continue clearing Harford County Public Schools of last weekend's record snowfall.

Harford County Public Schools officials say all weekend activities at schools are canceled as snow removal efforts continue.

Both school and community-sponsored activities at school facilities or on school property will not be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, and Sunday, Jan. 31, officials announced Thursday.

Students have been out of school since Friday, Jan. 22, due to a winter storm that left up to 37 inches of snow in parts of Harford County, breaking a previous record of 35.5 inches.

Harford County government officials said Wednesday that all roads have received at least one pass with a plow, and they are continuing to send crews to clear snow from curb to curb to facilitate drainage.

Citizens are asked to shovel their sidewalks, which are not the responsibility of the county.

When one person responded with disappointment to the school system’s announcement on the Harford County Public Schools Facebook page that weekend activities were canceled, since recreational activities help cooped-up kids burn energy, another commenter offered this suggestion: “Have them go out and shovel some snow.”
