Howard County Public School System Makes Weather Decision

The school system made decision Thursday morning.

Public schools in Howard County will be delayed two hours on Thursday, Jan. 8, according to Howard County Public School System.

  • Morning half-day prekindergarten has been canceled.
  • RECC programs are canceled.
  • All morning programs in schools sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation and Parks will be delayed two hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory until 8 a.m. Thursday, stating that strong winds and cold temperatures could put people at risk of hypothermia and frostbite. People who must go outside should be equipped with gloves and hats.

The Maryland School for the Deaf in Columbia will open two hours late. Liberal leave is in effect for faculty administrators and non-emergency essential support (administrative, clerical, Student Life, nurses and dietary) staff.
