Odenton Hotel Guest Robbed at Knifepoint in Room: Nearby News

The suspect, a homeless man, was found in a wooded area in Severn, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

A homeless man is in jail after he allegedly broke an Odenton hotel window, climbed into a room and robbed the guest at knifepoint, police say.

Anne Arundel County Police say the armed robbery happened about 7 p.m. Friday at the Royal Inn in the 1600 block of Annapolis Road in Odenton.

The 65-year-old victim told police a man threw a rock through the window of his hotel room, shattering the glass, and then climbed through the broken window, demanding money from the victim. When the man hesitated, the suspect reportedly pulled out a knife and held it up.

The victim then gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and the robber fled toward the front of the hotel property on Annapolis Road.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the robbery, police say.

Officers began checking the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. At about 7:30 p.m., an officer found a man matching the description of the suspect in a wooded area near Richfield Drive in Severn. The victim and several witnesses identified this person as the suspect in the robbery. A search found he had two knives and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Suspect Robert A. Jones, 52, of no fixed address, was placed under arrest and charged with armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault, first- and third-degree burglary, reckless endangerment and destruction of property.
