State Trooper Injured in Early-Morning Accident on I-270

The multi-vehicle accident snarled traffic at the start of 'Terrible Tuesday' rush hour.

URBANA, MD — A state trooper sustained injuries early Tuesday morning in a collision on Interstate 270 and was taken to a local hospital, according to the Maryland State Police.

The accident occurred at about 5:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-270 at Route 80, near the Urbana exit in Frederick County, the State Police said.

At the start of the post-Labor Day rush hour, known as "Terrible Tuesday," the traffic on I-270 had come to a stop, the State Police said. But two southbound vehicles failed to slow down and struck the vehicle behind the state trooper's car.

That car then struck the state trooper's car. He suffered minor injuries, WUSA-TV Channel 9 reported, and another trooper went to the scene to investigate the accident.

The injured trooper was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, the State Police said.
