GERMANTOWN, MD — A 40-year-old Germantown man convicted of raping several women across Montgomery County from 2007 to 2011 was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday, according to multiple outlets.

Marlon Michael Alexander — who was caught after his DNA evidence was linked to the crime scenes — pleaded guilty to first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense.

Authorities say Alexander is behind at least three rapes and one attempted rape over the course of a decade.

The first incident, a reported attempted rape, occurred in August of 2007. Authorities say Alexander forced his way into a 25-year-old woman's Gaithersburg home and threatened to shoot her if she didn't perform a sexual act. A struggle ensued, and he fled from the home. Later, investigators recovered Alexander's DNA at the scene.

The second incident took place in Germantown in June 2010. Police say Alexander entered the 68-year-old woman's home, held an unknown weapon to the victim's head, and raped her. Alexander's DNA was also collected in this case.

Several months later, according to police, Alexander entered an 86-year-old woman's home in Germantown. He was reportedly armed with a pair of scissors as he raped the victim. His DNA was also recovered at the scene.

In 2011, the victim of the June 2010 rape was victimized again in her home, police said. Alexander's DNA, which was left at the scene, matched the DNA recovered at the three other crime scenes.

"These offenses were targeted to vulnerable people," Judge Robert Jordan said at the sentencing hearing, according to Bethesda Beat.

When explaining his decision to go above sentencing guidelines, Jordan said he considered a series of factors, including the nature of the crimes and circumstances of the victims, Bethesda Beat reported.

"In our community there are no crimes more heinous than the ones Mr. Alexander committed," Assistant State's Attorney Jessica Hall said, per the magazine.
