The ribbon was cut at the new Giant supermarket in Owings Mills, located at Mill Station, where the Owings Mills Mall used to be.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — A new supermarket in Owings Mills opened Friday, Aug. 23. Giant at Mill Station hosted a ribbon cutting Friday morning at its brand-new store on Mill Run Circle.

The store spans more than 66,000 square feet and was the first built to suit Giant's new format. It includes hot and prepared food, cheese, deli, meat and seafood sections; fresh sushi; extensive organic area; full-service pharmacy; floral shop; PNC bank; and Starbucks.

It's in Mill Station, the shopping center on Mill Run Circle that Kimco Realty is developing in the spot where the Owings Mills Mall was demolished after it locked its doors in September 2015.

The grand opening of the new Giant included speeches by Giant representatives and Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones, who reported this is the latest addition to the shopping center, where more stores are coming.

When complete, officials said the open-air shopping center will encompass 640,000 square feet. Other tenants include Lowe's, Costco and AMC Theatres. According to Kimco's leasing brochure for the property, future tenants at Mill Station are America's Best Contacts & Eye, Burlington Five Below, Homesense, Marshalls, Mattress Warehouse, Mod Pizza, Sally Beauty, Village Nail Bar and Vineyard Elite. Tenants already located at Mill Station are AMC Theatres, Chido's Tex-Mex Grill, Greene Turtle, Olive Garden and Red Lobster.

"We are extremely excited to be opening our new store in Owings Mills, a community we have been embedded in since 1980," Giant Food Interim President Ira Kress said in a statement. "The new location will be packed with improved features, including the brand-new Giant Pickup service, a full-service pharmacy and a large organic and healthy food section."

With the pickup service, Giant customers can buy their groceries online and get them at a parking area outside. There is a $2.95 charge for the service, which is free the first time customers use it. Orders must be greater than $30.

The new store opened the day after two others closed — the Giant stores at 9934 Reisterstown Road and 9730 Groffs Mill Drive in Owings Mills shuttered the previous day. Each is about 2 miles from the new location. According to Giant, its new store created more than 50 new jobs.
