Grand Opening for Angel Park: Announcement Coming Up

Built by the community, the whimsical park near the Perry Hall Library will offer a playground and amphitheater.

PERRY HALL, MD — The creators of Angel Park will supposedly announce the grand opening for the children's playground and community gathering place in the weeks ahead.

More than 4,000 volunteers constructed the storybook-themed playground over the summer.

Built with all children in mind — including those with disabilities — Angel Park features whimsical castles, slides, a pirate ship and nontraditional elements such as braille panels.

Professional construction crews handled the surfacing of the playground as well as installation of a pavilion and amphitheater.

This week, the organizers of the park said that the grand opening announcement was coming soon, now that the finishing touches are being put in place.

"Completion of the playground build in July was only the first step in the making of Angel Park. Since then crews have been working diligently to complete the picnic pavilion and amphitheater," organizers said in a statement this week. "Final work is being completed in next couple weeks and we look forward to being able to announce an opening soon."

Andy and Kelli Szczybor, whose son Ryan died of leukemia when he was 15 months old, are the driving forces behind Angel Park.

“We wanted to call it Angel Park because there are so many people that have lost somebody,” Kelli Szcybor told Patch previously. “Angel Park—that’s for everybody.”

The 16,000-square-foot park will be surrounded by pickets and pavers where donors can memorialize those they consider to be angels.
