MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The county is embarking on 2-year study of bus transportation in the county, and is asking for commuters' input on the current system.

It's part of "Ride On Reimagined," which should result in a list of recommendations for the bus system and ideas on how it can be improved. The study will examine the county's Ride On buses, the Metro buses that operate within Montgomery County, and the future Purple Line.

“To have an effective transit system that reflects the needs of our riders, we need to hear from all of our community members,” said County Department of Transportation Director Chris Conklin in a news release. “This study will shape Montgomery County’s transportation services for years to come. We are asking our riders to help shape the future of our transportation network.”

The study will primarily assess:

  • route structure
  • connectivity
  • span
  • frequency of service

It will consider the county's goals for racial equity and climate control when making these recommendations. It'll also take a look at Ride On's branding, and how the public perceives it. The county is asking the public to comment on the "scope of work" of the project. The comment period will close on Nov. 1.

“Transportation funding, investment, and project prioritization are critical tools to combat historic inequities,” said County Executive Marc Elrich in a news release. “Transportation services shape our neighborhoods and allow access to jobs and amenities, as well as stimulating economic growth. It is important to connect our communities, support our local businesses, and provide accessibility to those in need. This study will address the County priorities to improve racial equity and address climate change concerns.”
