Thou Shalt Not: Police Arrest Suspect in Barnstable Church Robberies
Police said Steven Carpenter stole money from Our Lady of Victory Church then assaulted two police officers.

A man on Friday was charged with robbing a Barnstable church then assaulting two police officers.
Steven Carpenter, 27, faces numerous charges, including burglary, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
Barnstable police said on Friday, Officer Anson Moore came to Our Lady of Victory Church to conduct surveillance after staff said money was stolen the week before. That night at about 8:15 p.m., Moore said he saw Carpenter enter the church and head to a locked office where money is stored. When Moore confronted him, Carpenter charged at the officer and pushed him, police said.

The pair scuffled and at one point, Carpenter slipped out of his shirt and sweatshirt and ran out the church, police said. Another officer arrived—and Carpenter assaulted that officer, too, police said. He was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody.
Carpenter was held on $2,500 bail pending an arraignment Monday.
