Gillette To Invest $1B Into Boston Headquarters

The company said this is part of a strategy to position itself for long-term success.

BOSTON, MA — A 125-year-old Massachusetts-based company announced plans for a major expansion on Tuesday.

Procter & Gamble Gillette announced it plans to purchase 232 A St. in South Boston as the future home of its new Grooming Headquarters and Technical Innovation Center. The location is right next to its current 31-acre campus.

The company said this comes as part of a strategy to position Gillette for long-term success. That includes buying and building the nearly $1 billion custom innovation center, which will serve as an expansion of its Andover manufacturing facility, for which the company broke ground in April 2025.

Gillette said the investment marks the largest investment the company has ever made in Boston.

The site on A Street, which is currently owned by Breakthrough Properties, is permitted for a 324,315-square-foot research and development facility, along with ground-floor retail and multiple community benefits, according to the company.

Once complete, the project will contribute 1.5 acres of publicly accessible open space and a public area along the Fort Point Channel. That includes new sidewalks, bike lanes, a waterfront park and Harborwalk improvements.

Gillette also said it plans to move forward with its master plan to reimagine the South Boston campus. The company said benefits could include jobs, housing, new open space, enhanced connectivety and climate resiliency. You can read more about the master plan here.

Some other things that the company said the plan could include are 1,800 mixed-income residential units, a 3.5 million square-foot office and research space, 200,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and 250,000 square feet of hotel space.

“Gillette’s long history of innovation is intertwined with the City of Boston, and I’m thrilled that their new corporate headquarters will reinvest in their revolutionary roots along Fort Point Channel,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. “This new development will keep hundreds of high-tech research and development jobs in the city, and serves as a testament to the strength of our economy as a global hub for innovation and technology.”
