I-93 Road-Rage Suspect Works For Suffolk University Police
State Police arrested the Suffolk University police dispatcher in Braintree after he waved a gun at another driver on I-93, police said.
BRAINTREE, MA — The Avon man accused of waving a gun at another driver during a road rage incident Wednesday on Interstate 93 works as a Suffolk University police and security dispatcher. Daniel Bates, 33, was arraigned in Dorchester District court on charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
Around 7:45 a.m., the incident started on Interstate 93 south in Dorchester, where police said the two drivers began fighting. According to police, Bates waved a gun at a Honda, while both drove down I-93. Police said the other driver, a 42-year-old Boston man waved a knife.
State Police later found both men on Hancock Street in Braintree. Police said they seized a handgun from Bates and a folding knife from the other driver. According to court documents, Bates as a member of the Suffolk University Police Department, had a license to carry. Charges are also being considered against the other driver.

Suffolk University in a statement sent to WHDH said it will take "appropriate steps" as far as disciplining Bates.
“Suffolk University has become aware of an incident this morning that resulted in the arrest of a university employee,” the statement said. “We will take appropriate steps in terms of reviewing the allegations and determining proper discipline. This individual is not authorized by Suffolk University to carry a firearm while on campus or in the performance of his duties.”
