Brookline Grant Aims To Increase Energy Efficiency Townwide
The town has appointed a new energy advocate to help residents and small businesses navigate efficiency rebates and upgrades.
BROOKLINE, MA — The Department of Public Works Sustainability and Natural Resources Division has announced the town is participating in the 2025 through 2027 Mass Save Community First Partnership. The initiative provides Brookline with a three-year grant totaling $126,000 to support local energy efficiency goals. The funding allows for the hiring of a part-time Energy Advocate to assist residents and small business owners with personalized guidance regarding renewable energy and efficiency opportunities.
The town recently hired Caroline Staudt for this new role. Staudt's main duty is to help community members schedule no-cost Home Energy Assessments and review energy bills to determine eligibility for discounted utility rates. She also provides information on available rebates and incentives for insulation, air sealing, and heat pump installations. The town intends to collaborate with Mass Save sponsors, including Eversource and National Grid, to provide solutions aimed at reducing energy consumption. These programs are available to both renters and property owners. Given the high volume of rental housing in the town, officials are reportedly focusing on increasing participation among landlords and tenants through targeted outreach. Staudt expressed her commitment to the role and the community.
"I am thrilled to work with Brookline residents and empower them to take action to make their homes and businesses more climate friendly and more comfortable," Staudt said.
