Brookline High Put In Temporary Lockdown After Receiving Threat

The threat was later determined to be a hoax by police.

BROOKLINE, MA — The town’s high school located at 115 Greenough St. was put under lockdown on Thursday in response to a threat police received over the phone that claimed to be coming from the school, according to the police department.

The brief lockdown occurred just before 11 a.m. and was lifted approximately 45 minutes later after police determined the threat was a “hoax.”

“Brookline Dispatch received a call from the High School stating a person had suicidal ideations, at the 'Brooklyn' High School. He indicated he was wearing a suicide vest and had a firearm,” Brookline Police Sergeant Rob Disario told Patch.

Police classified the threat as a “swatting call" after a preliminary investigation, which is when a serious emergency situation is fraudulently presented in order to draw large police presence to a certain location.

Brookline High School Head of School Anthony Meyer said in an email that a mild police presence remained on the scene as a precautionary measure after the threat was determined to be illegitimate.
