Local Physician Launches Campaign For Brookline School Committee
Dr. Aylit Schultz is looking to make a difference in the Brookline school district.
BROOKLINE, MA — A resident has officially launched her campaign for the Brookline School Committee.
Dr. Aylit Schultz held a campaign kick-off event at the Liz Linder Studio in Brookline Village on March 18. The nephrologist has been a Brookline resident for more than 20 years and is making her first run at a spot on the committee. Schultz has spent the previous two years as a Town Meeting voter.
“I’m running for School Committee because Brookline needs leaders who can govern effectively during a complex moment. Brookline has seen significant leadership turnover – three high-level administrators last year and seven different superintendents over the last ten years,” Schultz said in a statement. “Now more than ever, our town needs talented School Committee members who can manage tight budgets, support sound stewardship, and keep academic excellence at the center of decision-making.”

Some of the themes and practices Schultz feels her presence can bring to the public school district include academic improvement and excellence, responsible handling and usage of resources, financial management, trust and collaboration, and a strengthened sense of community among faculty and students alike.
Schultz has received multiple endorsements for the role, including from current Committee members Dr. Bob Weintraub, Danna Perry, and Carolyn Thall. Schultz graduated from Yeshiva University with a Doctor of Medicine degree before completing her residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital through Cornell University. She completed her nephrology fellowship at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 2007. As a nephrologist, Schultz specializes in kidney treatment. She has applied her expertise to the classroom having spent time as an assistant professor at both Tufts Medical Center and Boston University’s School of Medicine. Schultz currently works as a physician at the Veterans Home in the city of Chelsea.

Schultz resides in town with her husband, Ron Scharf. Her children are graduates of the district.
“I am also a former Pierce and Brookline High School parent, so like many families, my connection to the town's schools has deeply personal roots,” Schultz said. “I know how much classrooms, performances, sports, and everyday moments can shape children’s lives. Schools are more than places of learning; they are one of the key anchors in a community.”
The townwide election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 5.
