New Skate Camp for Tykes
Professional Figure Skating Instructor, Christina Welch, Director of Skating for Burlington Hockey and the Figure Skating Association, is putting together a program for kids to learn the joys of skating in Woburn.
The seemingly effortless grace of figure skating takes years, even decades, to master. With over 21 years experience, Christina Welch has made a life out of mastering and teaching one of winter's most elegant sports.
This fall, Welch, a member of the US Figure Skating and Professional Skaters associations, is offering her talents to local youth, ages 2½ to 5, to get an early crack at life on the ice.
“I've been teaching in this area since 1989,” explained Welch, talking about her credentials and the reason for the program. “I am the Director of Skating for Burlington Hockey and the Figure Skating Association and I've been teaching preschool for same length of time as well. I noticed there is no preschool age classes and jumped at the opportunity.”

Welch added that her program focuses on the fundamentals of skating like balance and the inevitability of taking a fall. Although exact group numbers are still up in the air, Welch hopes to have roughly thirty students, broken up into three groups. Welch mentioned she will be aided by other trainers during her sessions.
“There will be a lot of interactive playing and games and toys to keep the kids entertained,” Welch said, describing her program. “ The kids don't need to know how to skate at all.”
