Malden Teacher And Coach Charged With Rape Pleads Not Guilty: Report

The man was arrested in Stoneham earlier this week.

MALDEN, MA — The Malden public school teacher and high school basketball coach accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old girl pleaded not guilty in Woburn District Court, according to a report from 7 News Boston.

Scott Marino, 54, was arrested at his Stoneham home on Wednesday, Feb. 25 on the charges of rape, assault and battery, and providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21. According to the prosecution, Marino took the girl, whom he had previously known, out to dinner in Boston before stopping at the liquor on their way back to his home on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The girl reportedly began not feeling well after he gave her margaritas and shots of hard liquor and went to bed. Prosecutors said Marino then took advantage of her. Marino’s defense argued that their client still has the support of his wife and many friends and colleagues.

Prior to his arrest, Marino was a seventh-grade math teacher at the Linden STEAM Academy and the head coach of the Malden High School girls' varsity basketball team. Malden Superintendent of Schools Timothy Sippel sent an email out to the community the day after the alleged incident to inform people that Marino had been placed on administrative leave while the investigation was carried out.
