📰 News we're reading
1. Benefits Of Oysters On Display In Marblehead (patch.com) — Marblehead residents are invited Thursday evening to an Oyster Upweller open house highlighting how 40,000 locally raised oysters help filter water and support coastal restoration. The event also includes dedicating a new water refill station in honor of Sustainable Marblehead members Steve Wolf and Rob Howie for their work protecting the town's waterways.

2. 'So people don't forget': This Friday, Marblehead marks 25 years since 9/11 (marbleheadcurrent.org) — Marblehead residents are invited to gather at Memorial Park this Friday at 10 a.m. for the town's 25th-anniversary Sept. 11 memorial ceremony honoring three locals lost in the attacks and two service members killed in the war on terror. Fire Chief Jason Gilliland says the event helps newer generations of firefighters and residents remember the sacrifices behind Marblehead's 9/11 memorial.

3. Swim, sip, repeat — without the waste (marbleheadcurrent.org) — Marblehead swimmers known as the Noodlettes are cutting waste by swapping disposable coffee cups for reusable mugs at the Marblehead YMCA's Dario's Cafe, thanks to a simple idea from the cafe owner. Their small change now keeps roughly 2,000 cups a year out of the trash and is sparking broader conversations about sustainability around town and at home.

4. Morello promoted by Marblehead Schools (marbleheadweeklynews.com) — Marblehead families should know that assistant business manager Kristen Morello has been promoted to director of finance, taking over the district's $47 million budget as Marblehead Public Schools split finance and facilities into separate roles. Officials say her work with new software helped uncover about $800,000 in unspent FY26 funds likely to be returned to the town, while a new facilities director will be hired separately.

5. Seaglass Village Moves to Larger Space as Membership and Volunteer Needs Grow (swampscotttides.org) — Seaglass Village, which serves older adults in Marblehead, Swampscott, and Nahant, has moved into a larger office at the Clarke School to handle growing membership and volunteer needs. The nonprofit is expanding programs, offering subsidized memberships for income-eligible women, and urgently seeking volunteer drivers to help residents get to medical and other essential appointments.
