5 Teens Charged In Connection With Medford Robbery Of Mail Carrier

MEDFORD, MA — Five teens have been charged in connection with the Oct. 31 assault and robbery of a United States Postal Service letter carrier, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office said in a news release Thursday.

The teens— Trevor Ray Kelley, 19, of Dunstable, Tyler Roberts, 18, of Lowell, two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old from Lowell—have each been charged with unarmed robbery, officials said.

The break in the case came in the early hours of Nov. 2, when night shift patrol officers of the Medford Police Department stopped a car speeding from South Street to Main Street, according to officials.

Inside the car was a loaded firearm, a backpack containing stolen mail, and an arrow key used for USPS mailboxes, officials said.

The four people in the car that night—Randy Valdez, 18, Jaeden Tucker, 18, Samnang Tommy Jr Heng, 18, and a 15-year-old juvenile, all from Lowell—were arrested and are facing charges including firearm and larceny charges, according to officials.

Authorities linked the arrests with the Oct. 31 attack, and the Medford Police Detective Division, with assistance from the United States Postal Inspection Service, Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Lowell Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police, conducted an investigation which eventually led them to the five teens arrested Thursday, officials said.

Trevor Ray Kelley and Tyler Roberts were set to be arraigned in Somerville District Court Friday, according to officials. Two juveniles were also set to be arraigned Friday, and another juvenile will be arraigned Tuesday.
