Sunday at Tufts – Community Concert Series
"Bridging Peace with Intercultural Journeys"
Intercultural Journeys (IJ) is a Philadelphia based organization that seeks to promote understanding in pursuit of peace among people of diverse faiths and conflicting cultures through dialogue and the presentation of world-class performances in music, dance, the spoken word, and other art forms. In 2009, IJ commissioned a powerful concerto written as a landmark contribution to Middle-Eastern cooperation. The Syrian artist, Kareem Roustom (who is also Tufts' Arabic Ensemble director), composed this Arab/Jewish musical odyssey titled Resonances. Intercultural Journeys' Artistic Director and Philadelphia Orchestra cellist, Udi Bar-David, will lead a virtuoso ensemble in a one-of-a kind performance of Resonances as well as many of IJ's popular selections.
Performers include: Udi Bar-David, Israeli cellist; Hanna Khoury, Arab violinist; Rolando Morales-Matos, Puerto Rican drummer; Special appearance by A Philadelphia Orchestra String Quartet.
Distler Performance Hall. Tickets are free with a Tufts I.D. card (limit two per I.D.) and $10 for general admission. Call 617-627-3679 for tickets. This concert has been made possible by the Granoff Music Fund.
