Gun Mag Found In Medford School Not Reported For Weeks
Police officers searched the school Tuesday after recently learning of the finding, according to a report.

MEDFORD, MA – The Superintendent of Medford Schools said Tuesday night he was wrong to not report a gun magazine found at a school in December. The magazine was only recently reported to police, according to a Boston 25 investigative report. Officers searched the campus of McGlynn Elementary and Middle School Tuesday after learning of the discovery, which happened Dec. 29 during holiday break.
In a statement Tuesday, Medford Superintendent Roy Belson said a cleaning company found the magazine under a seat in the school theater. It was turned over to the school custodian, who locked it in the principal's office.
The following day Medford Middle School Principal Jake Edwards said he cleaned his office and threw several items away that could have contained the magazine, according to Belson.

The incident was reported to Belson and the school resource officer, but the police chief was not directly notified. McGlynn was searched Tuesday after police were informed; no weapons or drugs were found.
"This was an isolated incident," Belson said in a statement. "The entire school system is committed to safeguarding the students, teachers and staff at all of our schools."

Belson spoke Tuesday night about the decision.
Superintendent of @MedfordMass says at the time, district did not consider magazine clip to be a threat since there was no actual firearm. So to avoid raising anxiety, they opted to not report it to @MedfordPolice. @boston25
