Medford To Break Ground On New Police HQ
The new police station on Main Street is expected to be completed by late 2020.

MEDFORD, MA — The city will break ground on its new police headquarters as construction is set to begin this month. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at 100 Main St.
Last month, the city awarded the project contract to Waltham-based developer CTA Construction. CTA's bid was $17,860,000, which is 3 percent under budget.
The facility will include up to date offices and conference room spaces for the police officers, a new combined dispatch center, extensive storage for evidence, a fitness center and modern detention facilities.

A portion of the building's electrical load will come from solar panels on the roof. The entire building has been designed to be energy efficient and will have lower operating costs, according to the city. It will not burn any fossil fuels, instead using a heating and cooling system with heat pumps and an energy recovery ventilation system.
The police station is expected to be completed by the fall of 2020.
