Medford High Alum Awarded First Sean Collier Scholarship At SSU

Collier, a 2009 graduate of Salem State, was working as an MIT police officer when he was shot and killed by the Marathon bombers in 2013.

MEDFORD, MA – A Medford High School graduate is the first recipient of the Sean A. Collier Memorial Scholarship at Salem State University. Danalee Williams, a sophomore criminal justice major, was awarded the scholarship at Salem State's Criminal Justice Awards Banquet April 19.

Williams will receive $1,000 annually provided she maintains good academic standing. The fund has raised over $30,000 so far, a university spokesperson told the Medford Transcript.

Collier, a 2009 graduate of Salem State, was working as a police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology when he was shot and killed by Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on April 18, 2013. He was also a Somerville auxiliary police officer and set to join the department full-time at the time of his death.

Williams currently has a 4.0 GPA and was described by a criminal justice professor as "one of his best students."
