Medford Man Charged With Breaking Into Somerville Home

He told police he was allowed to be there, but could not explain why he had cuts on his arm and had allegedly smashed a door with a hammer.

MEDFORD, MA – A Medford man was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly breaking into a home in Somerville. According to a Somerville police report, officers were called to Thorndike Street around 4:51 p.m. for a report of someone breaking a glass window on the front door and entering the home.

When police arrived, they could hear "voices whispering and shuffling" inside the home. After three attempts to get the people inside to come out, officers entered and found three people - 36-year-old Troy Larocque, of Medford, and an unidentified male and female.

A witness next door told police Larocque appeared "agitated" while walking around the house, muttering to himself and "grunting in an aggressive manner." She told officers she saw him walk on to the front porch and heard glass shatter. When she looked back, Larocque was allegedly inside the home.

According to the report, Larocque had cuts on his arm and elbows that were bleeding. Officers found glass on the hallway floor, a white shirt covered in blood and a hammer with spots of blood on it, police said. Larocque said the shirt was his and the blood was from his cuts.

He told police he knew a resident of the home and was allowed to be there, but he could not explain why he had apparently used a hammer to smash the front door window, the report stated. The man and woman with Larocque told officers they had come with him to the house but went to the back door and could not enter.

They waited there for Larocque to open the back door. No one could explain what they planned to do in the home, and the two people with Larocque said they did not know who lived there, according to the report.

Larocque was arrested and charged with breaking and entering daytime for a felony and possession of a burglarious instrument.
