Medford Middle Schools Will Hold Walkout Inside
While MHS students will leave school, the middle schools will stage a "safe, supervised environment" for National Walkout Day.

MEDFORD, MA – Medford's middle schools will participate in National Walkout Day tomorrow, March 14 in remembrance of the victims of the Parkland shooting. Administrators have devised a safety plan to ensure students stay safe and the school day runs smoothly once the walkout ends. But students at McGlynn and Andrews middle schools won't be physically walking out – administrators have allotted space in each school for students to gather and observe a 17-minute moment of silence.
In statements released Monday evening, McGlynn Assistant Principal Jody Liu and Andrews Principal Paul D’Alleva said participating students will meet in the auditorium and gymnasium, respectively. Students will not be forced to participate in the walkout or stay in class, officials said.
Students will not be penalized for missing class and parents are asked to contact the office if they would prefer their child stay home or arrive late to school after the walkout. Absences and tardies will be excused, administrators said.
