Medford Names New Andrews Principal
Superintendent Edouard-Vincent on Monday announced that a new face in the Medford Public Schools will replace Paul D'Alleva.

MEDFORD, MA – Two weeks after Andrews Middle School Principal Paul D'Alleva was named the new headmaster of Medford High School, Superintendent Marice Edouard-Vincent has selected his replacement. Medford Public Schools on Monday announced Michael Downs as the new principal at Andrews Middle School.
Downs, who was most recently the assistant principal at North Reading High School, brings 18 years of administrative experience to the Medford school system. He is also a retired U.S. Air Force captain, having served 20 years at home, abroad and in the reserves.
"Mr. Downs brings great energy, extensive leadership experience and a deep commitment to excellence to the Andrews community," Edouard-Vincent said in a statement. "It is my belief that his skill set will continue to provide the very best educational experience for students and parents of the Andrews Middle School."

Downs began his career teaching social studies at Merrimack High School in New Hampshire. He holds a bachelor degree in social science education from Plymouth State College, a master's in school administration from Rivier College and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in education administration from Salem State.
Downs has been a professional development presenter and served on the District Technology Committee, School Renovation Committee, NEASC Committee for Curriculum and the NEASC Committee for Leadership and Supervision. He also coached women's basketball at Lasell College and varsity girls' soccer, varsity boys' basketball and junior varsity baseball at the high school level.

Downs was voted Favorite Teacher of the Year by the Class of 2000 at Merrimack High School and named Educator of the Year in 2005 by the Junior ROTC at Methuen High School.
"I feel very excited and very fortunate to be a part of the Medford team," Downs said in a statement. "What drives my work in education is to do what is best for the kids. It’s my core value."
