Medford Says Goodbye To Superintendent Roy Belson
The city held a retirement party for Belson, who is leaving after five decades in the MPS and 23 years as superintendent.
MEDFORD, MA – Medford held a retirement party this week for outgoing superintendent Roy Belson, who is retiring at the end of the month. More than 300 family members, friends, neighbors, teachers, administrators, staff and students, both past and present, were in attendance at Montvale Plaza.
Mayor Stephanie M. Burke presented Belson with a wooden plaque of the city seal that was designed and made by the students at the Medford Vocational Technical High School. Belson received citations from State Rep. Paul Donato and State Sen. Pat Jehlen, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Marjorie Tiven of the Bloomberg Global Cities Initiative sent letters of congratulations.
Speakers included Former Mayor Michael J. McGlynn, who emceed the event, School Committee member Paulette Van der Kloot, Deputy Superintendent Beverly Nelson, Assistant Superintendent Diane Caldwell, the Superintendent’s children, Sara and Matthew Belson, and his wife Maxine Wish. Belson's grandsons, Ethan and Zackary Dziggel, led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Also in attendance were Superintendent-Elect Dr. Marice Edouard Vincent, current MHS Headmaster Dr. John Perella and former headmasters Salvatore Todaro and Dr. Paul Krueger.
