Medford Superintendent To Finish Out School Year
The school committee reversed its February decision to have Belson retire at the end of the month.

MEDFORD, MA – Medford Superintendent Roy Belson will stay on as originally planned, closing out the school year and retiring June 30. The school committee voted Thursday to reverse its initial decision in February to accept Belson's early retirement. The 23-year superintendent came to an agreement with the school committee amid fallout from the McGlynn gun magazine incident.
The vote was 5-2 in favor of having Belson finish the school year, according to the Medford Transcript. Those in favor cited the Medford Police Department's investigation into the incident and an unclear plan for the interim until a new superintendent is hired, while those against argued the school system could continue to operate without Belson.
Medford has whittled down the finalists for Belson's successor to Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent and Thomas Martellone. The next superintendent's tenure will begin July 1.
