Michelob Ultra Boston 13.1 Marathon(R) to Donate to Revere Tornado Relief Fund

Check presentation with Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo to be made at start of Boston 13.1 on Sept. 14.

The 2014 Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1 Marathon, produced by Life Time – The Healthy Way of Life Company, will donate $1,000 of race proceeds to the Revere Relief Tornado Fund. The money will be used to assist community residents and business owners with rebuilding devastated homes and businesses along Broadway, Revere after a category F2 tornado hit the town on July 28, 2014.

Representatives from the event will present the check at the 5th Annual Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1 Marathon on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 at Suffolk Downs Racetrack in Boston. Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo will be on site prior to the race start to accept the check on behalf of the city. Mayor Rizzo, as well as other federal and local officials, played a great role in launching the Revere Tornado Relief Fun. Currently, the total amount raised sits at approximately $225,000 and is expected to start being distributed in late October.

“The people of Boston have been so generous in welcoming the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1 Marathon into its rich running community and we are so pleased for the opportunity to give back,” said Sandra Benedict, head of Northeast Athletic Events Marketing at Life Time. “We are honored that, despite the devastation, so many North Shore locals are continuing their healthy way of life journey by participating in this event and we look forward to helping them as they rebuild and recover.”

The Boston 13.1 Marathon and 5K expect more than 2,000 runners along Revere Beach Blvd and Ocean Ave and throughout East Boston and Revere – the areas of the North Shore most affected by the tornado. Registration is still open for those that are interested in participating.

Last year, proceeds from the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1 Marathon benefited the One Fund to help those most affected by the tragic Boston Marathon bombings.
