Park at River’s Edge All-Purpose Sports Field Re-opens
It had been closed for two years.
[This is a press release from Preotle, Lane & Associates Ltd., the developer of River's Edge]
The River's Edge All-Purpose Sports Field in the northern section of the Park at River's Edge has been rebuilt and the path surrounding it is again open for running, walking, rollerblading and bicycling.
For approximately two years the field had been closed while National Grid completed a major directional drilling project, replacing cables that supply electricity to much of Medford. The new cables run under the Malden River. Preotle, Lane & Associates, under contract with National Grid, completed the field reconstruction work.

After the paths surrounding the field were repaved, 27,500 square feet (over .6 of an acre) of sod was laid in the section of the field that had been disturbed by the National Grid Project. Prior to laying the sod, the field's subsurface was reconstructed to match the adjoining, undisturbed section and includes special soils, pea stone, and drainage piping. The sod will remain dormant during the winter, and the field will be playable by early fall. The Park at River's Edge will at that time publish rules and hours of availability with respect to use of the field by both groups and individuals.
