Gerald Hennessy Not Seeking Re-Election For Board Of Health

After 47 years on the board, Hennessy is bowing out of this election.

MILFORD, MA- Gerald Hennessy has been a staple of Milford's Board of Health for 47 years. With the annual town election coming up, he's giving someone else a shot at the seat.

Voted into the Board of Health in 1971, Hennessy, 80, has seen countless initiatives pass through the town. Some of the most notable include raising the legal age for tobacco products from 18 to 21, which took place in 2016. In 2015 the board also lowered the tipping fee for Wheelabrator's waste removal work, a big feat that saved the town money- fees went from $96 per ton to $64 a ton.

Hennessy has also watched the board and town struggle with the opioid crisis and helped the town take action against it. The Board of Health has worked to create an opioid awareness program at Milford High School alongside the school nurses. The program brings awareness to substance abuse and teaches students the dangers it entails.
