NEWTON, MA — A new restaurant is on the verge of launching in Newton nearly nine months since it was first announced.
The Halal Guys will host a grand opening at its newest spot on 55 Needham St. on Saturday, April 18. The company started as a single food cart in Manhattan 35 years ago, and has since expanded to more than 100 locations throughout the United States. The Newton spot will become the eighth of its kind in Massachusetts and will be operated by Imran Asghar and Jamal Bourote. According to the business, the pair is responsible for bringing the chain to Massachusetts for the first time in 2017 with a location in Boston’s Theatre District at 137 Stuart St.
"Given the incredible enthusiasm and loyalty we've experienced across our Boston locations, we're excited to keep growing throughout the great state of Massachusetts," The Halal Guys Chief Operating Officer Margaret Carrera said. "We're delighted to introduce our distinctive American Halal cuisine to the residents of Newton and the surrounding communities, an area steeped in history and vibrant culture that perfectly aligns with our commitment to exceptional food and service.”
The Halal Guys locations are known for its American Halal offerings such as sandwiches and platters featuring offerings of falafel, chicken, beef Gyro, and spicy barbecue chicken. The latest addition to the menu is a lamb and beef Gyro served with a side of waffle-cut french fries. Its dessert menu is highlighted by baklava and cheesecake.
Egyptian natives Mohamed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka, and Abdelbaset Elsayed opened a hot dog cart in New York City in 1990 that would eventually become The Halal Guys. While they only opened their first physical restaurant 12 years ago, it did not take long for the chain to expand nationwide.
