NEWTON, MA — Rep. Kay Khan has endorsed Mayor Ruthanne Fuller in her reelection campaign.

Khan, a Democrat who has represented the City of Newton in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 1995, applauded Fuller's leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to make Newton a better place.

"I am very pleased to support Ruthanne Fuller for Mayor," said Khan. "Ruthanne is a strong leader and a strategic thinker with tremendous integrity. She has shepherded Newton through covid, an unprecedented crisis, and continues to keep us well informed on this critical matter and other issues. She has an expert team working on climate change, and I have worked with her team on climate legislation that I will soon be filing. She understands and champions various modes of transportation including bike and pedestrian trails and safe walks to school, and long before she became Mayor she was a supporter of improving access to our MBTA commuter rail system, another issue I have worked on for many years. As a member of the boards of the Newton Cultural Alliance and the New Philharmonia Orchestra, I have found Ruthanne to be an enthusiastic supporter of the arts who advocates expanding the arts across the city. She also is passionate about increasing the supply of much needed affordable housing."

"Ruthanne has moved our city forward during the last four years in numerous ways, so she deserves our support for another term as Mayor," she continued.

The endorsements from Newton City Council leadership come after Mayor Fuller's recent endorsement from EMILY's List, a national organization dedicated to promoting women candidates for office, National Champion for Women's Equality Barbara Lee, a group of local environmental leaders, former Mayor of Newton and State Representative from the 11th Middlesex District David Cohen, and Newton City Council President Susan Albright and Vice President Rick Lipof.
