3rd OUI Charge For Somerville Woman

Police arrested the driver in a crash on Pearl Street last week.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Somerville woman faces her third drunken driving charge following a crash on Pearl Street last week. Police were called to the scene around 2:35 p.m. Wednesday and found 52-year-old Jennifer Lewis and another driver exchanging information outside of their cars.

A witness told police Lewis was parked in front of his house and attempted to do a three-point turn, colliding head-first into another car parked on the opposite side of the street. She allegedly tried to flee the area and swerved into the opposite lane, hitting a taxi.

The taxi driver told police he was driving west when Lewis's Ford swerved into his lane of traffic, according to the police report.

Lewis allegedly had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was slow to react to questioning but did not smell of alcohol, police said. She told officers she was on the phone and distracted at the time of the crash.

Police recognized Lewis from another recent car crash but she denied involvement in that and a traffic stop shortly beforehand, the report stated. She agreed to undergo field sobriety assessments and was charged with operating under the influence of drugs based on the results of the test and items found in her handbag.

According to the report, officers found three pill bottles with her name on them – an empty 20-mg Oxycontin bottle, an empty 15-mg oxycodone bottle and a 10-mg Methadone HCL bottle with two pills – and a 0.5-mg Conazepam bottle with 34 pills that had her husband's name on it.

Lewis had two sealed guilty charges for operating under the influence of liquor in Somerville and Woburn district courts, according to the report. She also faces a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
