Amid Chaos, Somerville Officer Comforts Kids With Basketball Game
As police launched a manhunt for an armed bank robber in Somerville, one officer took some time to check on the students at a nearby school.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The hunt for a bank robbery suspect accused of shooting at Somerville police officers drew a massive law enforcement response from local, state and federal agencies. Police combed the neighborhoods near Davis Square as they searched for a man who Mayor Joseph Curtatone said was "dangerous" and had "no regard for human life."
Realizing the situation may be scary for some of Somerville's youngest residents, Officer Mark McLaughlin sought to ease the tension at nearby Kennedy Elementary School. McLaughlin joined students in the after-school programs for a pickup game of basketball.
"Thank you Officer McLaughlin, for looking out for our Somerville students," the police department said Thursday. "We are sure the students appreciated your presence on the court."
