Squares of Somerville: Wilson Square
Second post in my Squares of Somerville Series. Read more to find out what makes Wilson Square a place you should visit!
Wilson Square is a small, unassuming square on the border of Somerville and Cambridge. It isn't what I would call a "destination" square necessarily as it's not the type of place you would spend an entire day wandering around. It's only a few blocks at most.
That being said, it is a legitimate square, and in the couple of blocks it embodies, it packs a wallop with some awesome places worth checking out. It's a hop, skip, and a jump away from Porter Square. In real distance that means about 5 blocks or so. Less than a 5 minute walk down Elm Street towards Somerville Ave.
The most notable place here, in my opinion, is The Training Room. This is a private fitness studio that offers everything from personal training, to outdoor bootcamp, spinning classes, yoga, and more. It is pay-as-you-go so there's no membership, you just buy individual classes and/or packages of classes. The people here truly make this an outstanding and welcoming place to go work out. If you have passed by the trademark orange awnings but haven't gone in yet, or you haven't heard of them at all, definitely make a trip to see them! I don't doubt you will be happy you did.

Wilson Square has also been the longtime home to Tacos Lupita, a Mexican/Salvadorian restaurant, one block down from The Training Room on Elm Street. This is a no frills, comfort food, treat of a place to visit. It recently was bought and is now Aguacate Verde. I haven't been since the change of hands, but I've read that the food hasn't really changed. Since the food was simple, yet delicious then that's a good thing that it hasn't changed.
There's not too much else in Wilson Square, but these two establishments definitely keep me coming back on a regular basis. There is also a small Starbucks if you want a quick coffee to or a place to go sit and read or work without the hustle bustle craziness of somewhere like Daivs Square.

So, next time you find yourself down the road at Porter or Davis Square, why not venture off the beaten path and pay these places a visit. Tell them Amy sent ya!
