Lightning Strikes Somerville Home, Causes Fire
Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire as a storm was passing through Tuesday.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Firefighters from Somerville and Cambridge responded to a two-alarm fire Tuesday after a bolt of lightning struck a Cherry Street home. Three firefighters were "slightly injured," the department said. The house suffered $150,000 in damage.
The large 2 1/2-story wood frame at 51 Cherry St. was struck around 5:45 p.m., causing a fire along the roof line base and extending into the third floor. The third floor suffered severe fire and smoke damage while the lower floors suffered water damage.
Two people who lived on the second floor were safely evacuated. The person who lives on the first floor was not home.
