Revere Father-Son Oxy Traffickers Sentenced: Feds

The pair were convicted of selling oxycodone out of their family home and the son's East Boston business.

REVERE, MA – A Revere father and son convicted of trafficking oxycodone were sentenced in federal court in Boston Thursday, the U.S. Attorney's office said. Mario Scata, 71, pleaded guilty in December to his role in running a drug operation out of the family home and an East Boston business owned by his son, 45-year-old Manuele Scata. The younger Scata pleaded guilty to charges in February.

Authorities say in 2014 and 2015, agents noticed activity believed to be street-level drug sales at the Scata home and Manuele Scata's business, D& M Auto Doctor, on Bennington Street. Investigators identified the Scatas' supplier as 46-year-old Ilir Bregu and tracked his phone, learning that every two or three weeks he would drive up from Staten Island to Revere or East Boston and meet with one or both of the Scatas, according to the USAO.

A series of search warrants were executed on July 16, 2015 after agents watched Bregu meet with the Scatas at D & M Auto Doctor, the USAO said. Authorities found a hidden compartment in Bregu's car containing $37,800; approximately 1,900 oxycodone pills, a loaded gun and a machete in Manuele Scata's car; and additional oxycodone pills, a hand-written ledger and nearly $12,000 at the Scatas' home.
