Somerville Celebrating National Milestone With Patriotic Parade

The city is looking for various roles to be filled for the event.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The city revealed details this week about its upcoming Salute to Service parade that is taking place later this spring.

The event, meant to honor all service members as well as the 250th anniversary of the United States as a democracy, will be held on Saturday, May, 16, also known as Armed Forces Day. The procession is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and will depart from City Hall on 93 Highland Ave. It will proceed west on Highland Avenue and turn onto Cedar Street, Franey Road, and ultimately end at Trum Field on Broadway.

A large portion of the staffing for the event remains to be filled, and that includes parade participants. The city is asking any interested veterans, first responders, local community groups, organizations, and veteran-owned local businesses to join the procession. Marching bands, color guards, marchers and walkers, wheelers and rollers, vehicles with riders, motorcycles, dance teams, and honk bands are also being encouraged to join the march and provide their services. The organizers are also looking for volunteers to provide preparation and supervision support.
